School Filled with Prayer
The start of school is exciting but also filled with worry and fear for many. For some it’s because they are attending a different school. For most, it’s because of different teachers and expectations. For others it’s because of need – little or no supplies.
Prayer continues to be a powerful tool to encourage, uplift and support others.
This year we are adopting all 50 schools in the Manatee School System in order to be prayer warriors for the staff, the students and the parents.
32 elementary schools
10 middle schools
6 high schools
2 alternative schools
If you wish to join us in this endeavor, see below for the prayers to use and when to use them.
Praying for Our Schools
Heavenly Father, many students are thinking about going back to school next week and I know that many are feeling stressed. I don’t completely know the details of what they are thinking, but I give thanks to You for them and their gifts. I thank You that in Your wisdom, you allow these times of change so that they can grow. I thank You that You have placed parents, staff and other adults in a position to help them and walk alongside them as they experience these next few days (and months) of change. In Jesus name. Amen.
Father, so many students will be facing many decisions in the days ahead. Your Word reminds us to pray boldly for Your guidance and wisdom. Therefore, we ask Heavenly Father that you provide the helper these students need as well as the support on which they can rely. We also pray for Your Holy Spirit to provide clear guidance for them in the situations and the choices they will be facing this school year. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Father, just as You gave Your servants wisdom in the Bible, I ask that You give that same wisdom to the students of (name of school). Give them the knowledge of knowing what to do and wisdom of putting it into action. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Father, I know that when we are thinking about an upcoming situation, we tend to be thinking of ourselves first. I know that is true of so many of the students waiting for school to begin. Please impress upon them one or more of their friends for whom they can pray. Bring to their minds ways that they can bless others and show kindness to them, just as You’ve shown kindness to us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Father, I know You love me ‘as is’, but You also want me to grow in my faith, knowing You more and more. Help these student to know You better by thinking of ways to be a servant at their school site and in their daily lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Father, I know that Your Holy Spirit refreshes the weak and encourages the faint of heart. So many students will need that kind of endurance this year as they face fear. Strengthen them with Your godly power. In Jesus’ name. Amen
Father, these first days of school will most likely be a high stress time for many students. Give them the joy that only comes from Your Holy Spirit. Bless them with Your peace. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
August 10 (First Day of School)
Heavenly Father, As I have been praying throughout this week, please continue to give wisdom to the students as they begin school. Help them to connect with others who aren’t perfect but are seeking to be godly. Help them to know that their worth is in You and not found in popularity or the comments of others. Help their parents to be understanding, firm and loving. Give all parents discernment and wisdom as they discuss with their students the first day of school and its impact. Be their ultimate source of strength and peace. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen
NOTE: The first 7 prayers can be repeated with slight variations throughout each week of the school.
